Belgium
1964

Memories of the trip to Belgium, by Mike Cormack (Auckland & Blackheath)

We left on Boxing Day 1964 taking the ferry both ways to Belgium.

The team stayed at the Hotel De Touriste, in what is euphemistically called the entertainment part of Brussels, and played at least 4 games on the same pitch in Brussels without losing.

The pitch was a foot deep in fresh snow for the first game and - 7degrees - quite a nice surface actually, the snow had largely disappeared for the second game leaving frozen ground - not nearly as nice, by the third game the ice was melting leaving sharp shards and water - very uncomfortable and the final game was in good old mud which we kiwis were so used to.

All except the last match were played in the evening around 8pm. The after match started late and into the next morning!
