The club has always endeavored to provide coaching sessions to the local rugby population on the majority of its tours over the last 45 years. In moving the club forward it was decided to formalise the coaching activities and in conjunction with HSBC the HSBC Penguin International Coaching Academy was formed in 2004.

The first official outing the coaching academy was three coaching sessions run in Hong Kong during the 2004 tour. These coaching sessions catered for elite Chinese players aged 17 to 23, Hong Kong university students and a coach the coach’s session for the rugby coaches of Hong Kong.

The tour to Mexico also featured numerous coaching sessions including children, youths and adults and included two visits to orphanages and homeless children’s hostels.

Finally in 2004 two sessions where held for 300 Malaysian school children covering a wide range of skills with the emphasis on enjoyment.

Since the initial formal coaching trips in 2004 the club and academy has been very busy running numerous coaching and coach tutoring trips around the world with many more planed
