Frank Wagenstroom from Cape Town was presented the HSBC Penguin Rugby Award at the recently completed Investec International Rugby Academy High Performance Player course. The award was presented by Penguin International RFC CEO Craig Brown at the course venue in Konka, north west of Johannesburg. The course concluded on 23rd June 2011.
Frank will be selected for the HSBC Penguin tour at the end of the year to the Singapore Cricket Club 7s and the HSBC COBRA 10s in Kuala Lumpur.
Frank was selected by the course coaches who included Gary Gold and Dick Muir (current Springbok coaches), Murray Mexted (International Rugby Academy New Zealand, IRANZ MD) and Australian master coach John Connolly. Selection for the award is based on rugby ability, team work, fair play and the ability to be an ambassador for the HSBC Penguins and the International Rugby Academy.
Frank has represented South Africa at U18, U19 and U21 level (part of the victorious South African U21 world cup team), part of the Sharks Super 14 squad and has played numerous Currie cup games and plays wing. Frank was a popular winner with the other 27 players on the course.
Prior to the awards, Murray Mexted introduced the HSBC Penguins and asked Craig Brown to explain a bit more about the Penguins, their history, the HSBC Penguin Rugby Award and the synergetic link between the Penguins and the International Rugby Academy.
The club looks forward to welcoming Frank on the tour in November 2011.
